The city of Dallas built a brand-new animal shelter in 2007. The citizens of Dallas paid for it. So why are we still killing almost 80% of the animals that need shelter?

HumaneWatch is scum. Putting money before animal abuse. Despicable.
If you're still drinking the HSUS kool-aid, go check out their annual report at hsus.org and see where THEIR donations are going to. (Hint: a tiny percentage goes to shelters.)
To be honest, I don't really know what the Committee folks are thinking. Some Committee members are absolute HSUS diehards. I don't understand why they can't go take a look at an HSUS annual report - they assume that anyone who is against HSUS hates animals and supports abuse.
BTW, I wonder why they didn't discuss that $25K HSUS report during yesterday's meeting?
Allegedly MAC went out and solicited donations to raise the $25K, but the unofficial version is that one person put up the $25K.
Like I've said 20 times before, hiring the HSUS once, back in 2001, was silly as they don't run shelters. Hiring them twice was downright stupid. Why don't they look into hiring Nathan Winograd? He's cheaper and actually gets results.
I guess everyone at MAC and the Shelter Commission are too scared to take such a radically different approach - as Winograd's is totally different than the current modus operandi - or are content to keep killing 80% of the animals that go into DAS.
In response to that last comment - check out the THLN home page and tell me that HSUS doesn't donate to THLN. Wayne Pacelle is not going to show up to anything unless there's something in it for him.
In the meantime I'll research THLN finances - as a nonprofit, certain disclosures are mandatory. I suggest you do, too.
I'd bet the rent that Rebecca Poling does the books for MAC. She's always flogging her accounting services on her various "I belong to this group" pages. There's a link on her Examiner.com page.
Here's an answer to Anonymous who posted Aug 28, and who wanted to be shown links between HSUS and TLHN:
Just Google "HSUS Annual Report" and check out the list of grants. Page 18 of the HSUS' 2005 Annual report is a good place to start. THLN is listed as recipient of an HSUS grant. See last column.
I would bet the TREASURER of MAC does their books or has his own office do it, along with THLN and perhaps in the past ALDF and however many other groups he is Treasurer of and guess who that is!
Thanks for the tip on 2005, I'll try to get time to do that.
It would be interesting to know if Polling does MAC tho and who does the taxes for Companions for Life? and is it Dallas Animal Advocates or whatever she runs there? she could do those and does she sign them?
Why was MAC involved in paying for HSUS study? That expense has nothing to do with spay/neuter which is their mission. The only link I see to that is Trimble, Poling & Munch. http://www.metroplexanimalcoalition.org/directors.html

Are you referring to Humane Watch or the HSUS?

"Putting money before animal abuse. Despicable?"
Are we 100% sure that that is not what the power brokers on the Dallas Animal Shelter Advisory Committee have been doing?

Did MAC - Metroplex Animal Coalition pay for the $25K HSUS study?

Trimble has for a number of years donated thousands of dollars to HSUS and their legislative PAC.
And in turn, HSUS has donated thousands back to Skip's org THLN.
And how do you know HSUS has donated to THLN? Show me.

please see what you can find, I have to see it :-D and I will appreciate your efforts!
